The Mayday Sustainers Campaign: Increasing the reach of independent media

In order for Mayday to reach its full potential, it needs to distribute more copies, more regularly, and with better content. It is our promise to realize this potential by 2009, and this means meeting the following goals:

Increasing distribution to 10,000 copies per month
Installing street distribution boxes throughout the city
Hiring a part-time employee
Getting the Mayday web-site on-line and fully functional
Moving the publication schedule to bi-weekly

If you can appreciate the incredible power that mass media has over our political culture, then you’ll appreciate the importance of expanding a publication that is 100% local, independent, non-profit and explicitly progressive in its values. Not elitist, sectarian or alienating, Mayday is for everyone, and our goal is to expand its audience firmly into the mainstream of Hamilton. We are a vehicle for the voices of social movement organizations, non-profits, artists and activists. With your help, we can get these voices heard across our city. Once heard, these voices can then work their power for change

In order for Mayday’s renaissance to be realized, we will need the help of community members like yourself. We are hoping that people who truly believe in the importance of local, independent media will consider becoming a Mayday Sustainer, and pledging $10, $20 or $30 per month to keep the publication going and growing. All sustainers will also be given monthly subscriptions (mailed to your door), and will be discretely listed in a “Sustainers Section” in each issue.

We began publishing Mayday Magazine because we realize the critical importance of ideas and information in creating social and environmental change. A renewed, reorganized Mayday can be instrumental in informing and challenging Hamiltonians. If you think this goal is worthwhile, then lend us your support. I promise that we won’t let you down…
