Kevin MacKay, Centre Director
Kevin
is taking a temporary leave from completing his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology
at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. For six years Kevin has been
the director of Sky Dragon Centre. In this capacity, he has produced several
dance, theatrical, and artistic events and was the coordinator of Gaia-Fest
2001, an ecological festival held in Hamilton's downtown core.
Kevin has ten years of experience in meditation and eight years experience
in the martial arts. He works as a sessional lecturer teaching Baguazhang
in the McMaster University Department of Kinesiology, and lectures for
the department of Humanities and Social Science at Mohawk College. He
has also taught several meditation seminars at the University and is a
regular guest speaker at religious studies classes and at other campus
events concerning spirituality and holistic health.
Kevin has extensive contacts within the Hamilton environmental,
artistic, social justice, holistic health and university communities.
For seven years, he has been active in local environmental and social
justice organizations, organizing be nefit
concerts, protests, and information campaigns. Lately, his activist energies
have been directed toward the Hamilton Social Forum, a collective committed
to building community amongst the city's diverse social movements.
From May to August, 2003, Kevin worked in Ottawa as an intern
at the North South Institute, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) dealing
with trade, development, and human rights. He is now back in Hamilton,
teaching at McMaster and Mohawk, and working on the centre project.
