Dan Smith, Treasurer
In December 1992, Dan graduated from McMaster University
with a degree in theoretical physics. He then returned to McMaster to
study engineering, later transferring to Mohawk College. Dan worked full
time; holding down three part time jobs while attending Mohawk and graduated
in 1996 with a Mechanical Engineering Diploma with Dean's Honour List
Standing.
After graduating from College, Dan worked for several years as a design
engineer in the aerospace industry; a position where he was able to develop
innovative solutions that generated research grants for his employer.
Also, during Dan's employment as a design engineer, he took courses at
night school and earned enough credits to get a general B.Sc. in mathematical
science with an emphasis on computers. After working as an engineer for
nearly three years, Dan decided to return to school to get an MBA in finance.
During Dan's finance MBA, he was able to gain co-op work experience at
the Bank of Montreal, Citibank and Siemens. At Siemens, he performed an
audit of an entire manufacturing facility, from the ground floor to senior
management. This experience has given him great insight into the operations
of a company and how it generates profits. Dan graduated from his MBA
program with Dean's Honour List standing in 2002 and has been consulting,
writing, sculpting and running graduate level tutorials as McMaster University
since then. He is currently taking accounting courses geared towards earning
a CMA designation.
